Artist List 02 Gary Simmons, African American (b.1964). Huge chalk paintings on slate, about 2 or 3 times the height of an average person. The images are smudged and rubbed out, but traces are left like bits of memory that can never be erased. I love the action in these works, a sense of caught movement, and they seem to hover right at the edge of being finished. Just the way I like it.
